Dr. Sergio Lavandero is a very well-established Chilean scientist, who has achieved both national and international recognition. Currently, he is Full Professor with positions in two academic units (Faculty of Chemical & Pharmaceutical Sciences & Faculty of Medicine) of the University of Chile, Santiago, Chile. Also Dr. Lavandero holds an Adjunct Professor position in the Cardiology Division, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, Texas). He is Director and Principal Investigator of the FONDAP Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases (ACCDiS) and Principal Investigator of the Center for Molecular Studies of the Cell (CEMC).
He is author of 221 publications in ISI journals, 5 book chapters and 4 patents. His total citations is 11,761 and h index is 46. His research has been supported by FONDECYT, Anillo, FONDAP grants & international collaborative grants. He is member of the editorial boards of Circulation, American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology & Metabolism and Cell Death & Diseases, Ad hoc reviewer in international journals and several national and international research organizations. He has trained 69 undergraduate, 8 masters and 69 PhD students as well as 14 post-doctoral fellows.
His most important administrative achievements include having served as President and Representative member for Biology in the Higher Council of Science in FONDECYT, President of the Chilean Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, member of the Evaluation Council and Vice President of Research and Development of the University of Chile. He is corresponding member of the Chilean Academy of Sciences.
